Comments:
Given we´ve all started developing trenchfoot from playing in the rain of late, it was nice to get a game on a dry and breathless evening. The match started as a gritty tussle with Buddug doing the hard hitting and myself scrambling around like an excited dog at the beach, wheel spinning on the clay as I tried helplessly to change directions. Somehow, my resilience worked in the first set and I snuck ahead; in the second, Buddug switched up the game play a bit, took an early lead and never looked back. In particular, I found myself flailing for multiple high lobs that were either (a) missed completely or (b) spanked straight into the back fence. In the tiebreak shootout that followed, I got an early lead and gritted my teeth to sneak a good win that could have easily gone the other way on another day.

Comments:
In traditional box league weather (wind, rain), we played a gritty, well-spirited affair on the clays. Paul served strongly throughout, but I returned competitively and was able to dictate most points, with more winners than unforced errors in the first set. The second set started as an attritional affair, with several breaks of serve either way, but towards the end of the set my first serve reappeared and managed to get me over the finishing line today. We both also learnt a new shot, "the eagle", which others should be nervous of being confronted with in future matches.
